Roseland clinic to relocate

January 2008

To better serve the patients in Roseland and surrounding communities, the Roseland clinic will relocate in February 2008. The new site will be in a medical office development directly across the street from the current location within Roseland Community Hospital. The new space will house 12 exam rooms, as well as space for the licensed clinical social worker and other support staff.

When assessing the healthcare needs of the greater Roseland community on the far south side of Chicago, it was discovered that far too few people have access to a primary care physician. Instead of seeking care from a primary care physician, residents were utilizing the emergency room of Roseland Community Hospital for all their acute healthcare needs. This created a situation where the emergency room was woefully over capacity, creating long waiting times for patients.

In partnership with Roseland Community Hospital, Chicago Family Health Center opened a community health center within the hospital in May 2006 to rectify the problem. The new center provided patients who did not have a primary care home an alternative to waiting for care in the emergency room for acute healthcare issues.

Since the opening of the center, CFHC and Roseland have been successful in informing patients of their option to stay and receive care in the emergency room, or to seek care at the Center under a sliding fee scale program. CFHC has provided a medical home for many who previously did not have access to one. However, for the continued success of the Roseland Center, it is necessary to take the next step of relocating the site. Although the new site will not be within the hospital, it is only a very short distance away, and will still be accessible to patients who seek care in the Roseland Community Hospital.
